Discovering Swift Parrots<\/h2>\n

Discovering Swift Parrots<\/strong> is a suite of resources developed for primary schools to raise awareness of the plight of one of Australia\u2019s beautiful and unique birds, the critically endangered swift parrot (Lathamus discolor<\/em>). The program consists of two packages:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. The Journey Begins<\/strong>, tailoerd for Year 3 and 4 students, starts at the very beginning by introducing students to the swift parrot. This includes identification, physical characteristics, migration, habitat, diet, breeding, life cycles, conservation status, threats and recovery.<\/li>\n
  2. A Closer Look<\/strong>, tailored for Year 5 and 6 students, continues the journey exploring the world of the swift parrot with an additional focus on taxonomy, migration, adaptations, food chains, pest species, climate change and conservation efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Threatened Species of the Riverina Education Program<\/h2>\n

    The Threatened Species of the Riverina education program provides teachers with resources about three threatened bird species:<\/p>\n

    1. Malleefowl<\/li>\n
    2. Australasian Bittern<\/li>\n
    3. Plains-wanderer<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Resources available include a lesson plan, teacher information sheet, PowerPoint slides to use during the lesson, and additional activities to undertake with the class.<\/p>\n

      We are currently developing curriculum-linked resources suitable for Stages 2 & 3, exploring Narrandera\u2019s Koala colony. Our resources are linked to Koala Smart’s education resources, tailored specifically to our region.<\/p>\n

      Get to know the endangered Superb Parrot through curriculum-linked resources for Stages 2 and 3. Learn how the NSW Riverina provides critical habitat for this species, and what can be done to protect it.<\/p>\n
