{"id":4359,"date":"2020-03-25T03:43:07","date_gmt":"2020-03-25T03:43:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mli.org.au\/?p=4359"},"modified":"2023-02-17T12:21:51","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T01:21:51","slug":"useful-resources-for-educating-and-entertaining-kids-at-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mli.org.au\/home\/useful-resources-for-educating-and-entertaining-kids-at-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Useful resources for educating (and entertaining!) kids at home"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Many of us are now &#8220;home-schooling&#8221; our children, and while spending this extra time together can be really special, it can also be hard to know what and how to teach them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help you, we&#8217;ve put together a selection of some of the best FREE online resources we&#8217;ve found to teach kids about Landcare-related topics. We&#8217;ve broken them into the two key parts of Landcare &#8211; nature and farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many of the sites are designed for teachers, so have formal lesson plans, but they all have some great resources you can use in a less formal environment. There are videos, worksheets, colouring sheets, online games and heaps of other ideas for activities you can do at home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Whether you want to dive into a multi-week lesson or just grab a single activity, you&#8217;re sure to find plenty of Landcare-ey ideas here to educate and entertain your kids!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nature and biodiversity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Junior Landcare (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/landcareaustralia.org.au\/junior-landcare\/junior-landcare-resources\/curriculum-resources\/\" target=\"_blank\">Junior Landcare<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 A number of educational resources to encourage young people to participate in Landcare activities and build a closer connection with the land. Resources cover food gardens, worm farms, frog ponds, natural pesticides and restoring habitats. There is also a newly developed <a href=\"https:\/\/juniorlandcare.org.au\/just-for-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Just for Kids section (opens in a new tab)\">Just for Kids section<\/a> with lots of activity sheets for kids<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" Cool Australia (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coolaustralia.org\/curriculum-materials\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cool Australia<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Lesson plans and resources from pre-school through to year 12. Cover a huge range of topics; some of my favourites include the \u201cLove food? Ecosystems covered include alpine, freshwater, grassy woodland and river red gum forests.
