{"id":4365,"date":"2020-03-26T03:43:08","date_gmt":"2020-03-26T03:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mli.org.au\/?p=4365"},"modified":"2023-02-17T12:25:17","modified_gmt":"2023-02-17T01:25:17","slug":"online-courses-and-resources","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mli.org.au\/home\/online-courses-and-resources\/","title":{"rendered":"Online courses and resources"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>With events cancelled, parties banned and most social venues closed, now might just be the time to take advantage of the opportunities the internet offers to learn something new from the comfort of your home!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are way too many courses and resources available to list, but below is just a small sample of some local offerings (plus a couple from the US) to whet your appetite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Soil CRC webinars (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/soilcrc.com.au\/participants-conference-webinars\/\" target=\"_blank\">Soil CRC webinars<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 With the cancellation of the Soil CRC 2020 Participants Conference (due to COVID019), we have been given the opportunity to instead learn about their work through a series of FREE webinars. The recordings of the  webinars are now available to view at any time<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Regenerative Agriculture videos (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scu.edu.au\/regenerativeag\/regenerative-agriculture-videos\/\" target=\"_blank\">Regenerative Agriculture videos<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 The Regenerative Agriculture Alliance offers a series of videos that aim to educate farmers on the practice\u2019s potential to improve soil health, human health, landscape resilience and biodiversity. Videos include interviews with Charles Massy, Bruce Pascoe, Terry McCosker, Kerry Cochrane and Tammi Jonas<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"ANU Sustainable Farms  (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sustainablefarms.org.au\/node\/206\" target=\"_blank\">ANU Sustainable Farms <\/a><\/strong>&#8211; Sustainable Farms has a program of podcasts featuring short, engaging chats about the research being conducted by the team<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pg\/BirdLifeAustralia\/videos\/?ref=page_internal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"BirdLife Australia (opens in a new tab)\">BirdLife Australia<\/a> &#8211; The &#8220;Birding at Home&#8221; series of videos provide interesting tips and interviews with staff members from BirdLife Australia. Topics covered include: Backyard birding for beginners, Parrots in your backyard, and Creating bird-friendly gardens<\/li><li><strong style=\"word-spacing: normal;\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" label=\"WIRES wildlife training (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wires.org.au\/training\" target=\"_blank\">WIRES wildlife training<\/a><\/strong><span style=\"word-spacing: normal;\"> \u2013 If you are interested in becoming a wildlife carer with WIRES, you can do the first part of your training online. The \u2018Rescue and Immediate Care\u2019 course costs $125, and in addition to the online component you will need to complete a 1-day practical workshop. Alternatively, you can do the FREE \u2018Introduction to Australian Wildlife\u2019 course online<\/span><\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Kiss the Ground (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/kisstheground.com\/videos\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kiss the Ground<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 This site has some excellent FREE videos on soil and regenerative agriculture, with several interesting interviews with farmers (from the USA)<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Holistic Management (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/savory.shop\/collections\/online-courses\" target=\"_blank\">Holistic Management<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 The Savory Institute (in the US) offer a series of five online holistic management courses. Each course costs USD$99 (approx. AUD $165). Alternatively there are a great range of FREE resources available from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Holistic Management International (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/holisticmanagement.org\/free-downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\">Holistic Management International<\/a>  <\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Digital Storytelling (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalstorytellers.com.au\/stories-for-impact-online\/\" target=\"_blank\">Digital Storytelling<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Learn how to find, make, edit and share short videos to tell your story. The \u2018Stories for Impact\u2019 online course costs $150, and shows you how to make and edit videos using free software (as well as using paid programs). You\u2019ll also learn how and where to share your videos, to significantly expand your network and the impact of your work<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Simple Skills for Self-Sufficiency (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pipmagazine.com.au\/self-reliance\/simple-skills-for-self-sufficiency\/\" target=\"_blank\">Simple Skills for Self-Sufficiency<\/a><\/strong> \u2013 Pip Magazine has launched a new FREE weekly video series to share simple skills for self-sufficiency and self-reliance at home. You can choose to subscribe to their Youtube Channel, if you would like to get notifications when new videos are released<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Business and digital skills (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/techsoup-au.course.tc\/catalog\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Business and digital skills<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Connecting Up and TechSoup are offering a number of FREE online short courses to help non-profit organisations cope with the conditions under COVID-19. Courses cover team management, social media, marketing and software skills. Courses which are not offered free range in price from around $15 to $100<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"TAFE NSW short courses (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tafensw.edu.au\/fee-free-short-courses\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TAFE NSW short courses<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; In response to COVID-19, TAFE NSW have opened up a number of online courses to be completed completely free. Courses range from a few weeks to six months, and cover digital skills, business management and administration<\/li><li><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" label=\"RuralBiz Training (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ruralbiztraining.com.au\/\" target=\"_blank\">RuralBiz Training<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; Various Nationally Accredited units are being offered which are fully subsidised by the NSW Government, under the NSW Smart and Skilled (part qualifications) funding program. Topics covered include: Soils, farm planning, livestock, crops, risk management, succession planning, workplace health and safety, farm record keeping, farm business management, and Chemical Card Plus<\/li><li><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Coursera (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coursera.org\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Coursera<\/strong><\/a><strong> <\/strong>&#8211; This website has hundreds of online courses available, most of which are free. Courses are offered by universities worldwide, and cover topics including agriculture, sustainability, health, education and business. Check out the free <strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Agriculture, Economics and Nature course (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.coursera.org\/learn\/agriculture-economics-nature?aid=true#enroll\" target=\"_blank\">Agriculture, Economics and Nature course<\/a><\/strong> offered by the University of Western Australia; starting on 15 June, the course is completed online over 7 weeks, with a total of approx. 23 hours required to complete the course<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With events cancelled, parties banned and most social venues closed, now might just be the time to take advantage of the opportunities the internet offers to learn something new from the comfort of your home!
