Volunteers doing some propagation work at the nursery
Hay Plains Landcare’s Landcare Alive brings the community together every Thursday at their Landcare nursery. The aim is to grow and supply native plants for the community to plant in the local landscape.
The Nursery was established in 2023 with support from the NSW Government through its Environmental Trust. Since October 2023, it has opened its gates every Thursday and welcomes everyone to get hands on.
Those attending help with nursery tasks such as propagation or weeding, or can simply sit, have a cuppa and a chat while enjoying a bush tucker morning tea. Recently special monthly activities have been added to the calendar including building frog hotels, pot painting, hydro dipping, pour painting, water colour painting and weaving.
Anyone is welcome to attend Landcare Alive and contribute to the work done by the nursery in growing native plants for the community, or to use the facilities to grow plants for their own garden or revegetation project. All materials and equipment are supplied; attendees just need to wear appropriate field clothes and shoes.
The special monthly activities have seen increased numbers with 20 people attending the recent frog hotel workshop. To participate in these workshops you are asked to register, to help with planning and supplies. You can see what activities are planned for coming months here, and register for upcoming activities via the Bidgee Plains Facebook page or online form.

There are always plenty of friendly faces to share a cuppa with!
Landcare Alive is providing a regular opportunity to bring people together to connect with each other, an important part of building resilience in our communities.
