Murrumbidgee Landcare has developed a Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Guide to help landholders, volunteers and community members recognise and respect Aboriginal cultural sites and objects on Country. The guide explains what to do if you discover something that may be of cultural significance, with clear steps to avoid harm, record observations safely, and report to the appropriate authorities and local Aboriginal organisations.
It also outlines key legal responsibilities under NSW legislation, including the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 and the Aboriginal Land Rights Act 1983, so people understand that harming Aboriginal objects and places is an offence, and that private property rights remain protected. This resource supports caring for Country in partnership with Aboriginal communities, ensuring cultural heritage is respected, protected and properly managed.
