Did you know the Country Women’s Association (CWA) has a Virtual Branch?
This is a great option for women who are unable to get to in-person meetings at a local branch, due to isolation or other commitments.
Branch Meetings
The Virtual branch meet on the second Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm, via Zoom. Email invitations to the meetings are sent to members on the day of the meeting – to join the meeting click on the link in those emails.
Meetings are run along the same lines as physical branches. The group has an Executive consisting of a President, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer, Secretary, and two Vice Presidents. They also have an Agricultural & Environmental Officer, as well as a Cultural Officer, International Officer and a Handicrafts Officer who submit written reports each month for the meetings.
As well as meetings, the Virtual Branch has a number of other regular online activities which members can take part in:
- Craft Bees: These are also held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7.30pm. Each member who wishes to participate brings whatever craft she wishes to work on, or the materials needed to learn how to make a particular craft. Those wishing to learn a craft will receive assistance and support from those who are able to help her learn the new craft
- Book Club: This is run via a monthly meeting hosted by the Cultural Officer. Rather than a specific book to be read, the Book Club has a genre or theme to be read. Examples of recent monthly themes include: A book received as a gift; favourite recipe book; a book written in the first half of the 20th Century; and favourite non-fiction book.
- Virtual Street Stall: Fundraising for the Virtual Branch proved a big problem in the early years. None of the members lived close to another member, so any fundraising was done on an individual basis. After much discussion, the group came up with the idea of a monthly Online Street Stall on Facebook. This proved a great success! Handmade or new items are donated by members and put up for sale or auction at the beginning of each month. The sale/auction lasts for the first few days of the month.
