Yarran Creek has been identified as a waterway in need of environmental restoration. The creek plays a vital role in the local ecosystem and provides habitat for various native species. However, years of agricultural
practices on surrounding land, and unrestricted livestock access have led to the degradation of the creek’s banks and surrounding vegetation.
Multiple landowners approached Murrumbidgee Landcare Incorporated for assistance to repair Yarran Creek. Funding was secured in 2021 through Local Land Services to erect fencing and revegetate Yarran Creek through two properties. Stock-proof fencing was installed along Yarran Creek to protect the creek from further damage. This crucial step now prevents livestock from accessing the waterway, allowing natural regeneration to occur and protecting newly planted vegetation.
Following the fencing installation, a revegetation program was initiated. Plants indigenous to the Grong Grong area were chosen to ensure compatibility with the local ecosystem. A mix of trees, and shrubs, were planted to create a diverse, multilayered habitat.
