The Hay Plains Landcare Nursery & Demonstration Site hosted a lively Bush Dyeing and Bush Tucker Workshop on the 17th of April 2025, bringing the community together to explore traditional crafts and native flavours.
Participants enjoyed hands-on creativity as they dyed silk scarves and calico bags using natural plant materials sourced from the local environment. Guided by experienced facilitators, they experimented with leaves, bark, and flowers to create stunning, one-of-a-kind designs. The workshop encouraged everyone to try different techniques, resulting in a colourful display of patterns and textures inspired by the Australian bush.
While the dyed fabrics dried, the group gathered around an open fire to prepare Johnny Cakes, a traditional bush bread.
This workshop was proudly funded by the NSW Government, a Bulk Gives Back grant, and the NSW Landcare Enabling Program – a collaboration between Local Land Services NSW and Landcare NSW.
