A word from the Sustainable Agriculture Facilitator (August 2025)
As part of Riverina Local Land Services 2025/26 pest levy-funded programs, landholders are being offered a suite of incentives for support in tackling ground pest issues across our region. These programs are a great opportunity to take proactive steps in managing feral pigs, foxes, wild dogs, and rabbits. Species that continue to pose serious threats to agricultural productivity and biodiversity.
Here’s what’s on offer:
Feral Pig Control:
- Join a baiting or trapping program that includes subsidised grain for free feeding, poisoning, and trapping. Programs are supported by site inspections and Vertebrate Pesticide Induction Training (VPIT)
- More information – Feral pig control
Fox and Wild Dog Control:
- Participate in coordinated baiting using fresh meat baits, with subsidised supply and access to VPIT. This program helps reduce predation risks and supports broader landscape-scale pest management
- More information – Fox and wild dog control
Rabbit Control:
- Engage in a proven baiting program using 1080 or Pindone poisoned carrot, preceded by free feeding with untreated carrot. Incentives include subsidised bait supply, tailored advice, and VPIT access.
- More information – Rabbit control
These incentives are available to private holdings within the Riverina LLS region until 30 June 2026. If you or your neighbours are interested, I encourage you to reach out to your local Biosecurity Officer for more information and to get involved.
