2019 – 2020
Funded by Landcare Australia
This project will involve assessing and evaluating the soil chemistry and biology of paddocks with alley plantings, pasture cropping and paddocks managed as traditional pasture systems. The project will focus on properties in the Boree Creek area.
Through this project, we aim to help local farmers understand the impact of different farming practices on soil health and livestock production, allowing them to better assess if these methods might work for them.
We will assess soil on six properties in the Boree Creek region, collecting and collating the following information:
- Soil chemical and biology tests
- Management practices on the paddocks surveyed, including liming/fertiliser history, average and maximum DSE/ha for the past 3 years, grazing practice (eg set stocking or rotational), species present in the pasture (both sown pasture and weed species), and any supplementary feed requirements
The above information will be review and analysed in relation to underlying geology, management information and previous soil test results.
