Overview
A comprehensive suite of educational resources is available to support this learning module, including a detailed lesson plan, teacher information sheet, PowerPoint presentation, and a variety of extension activities designed to reinforce classroom learning.
Schools are invited to contact Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc to arrange a visit from our experienced staff, who can deliver an engaging, interactive learning session focused on local endangered species.
The program explores three distinctive bird species native to the NSW Riverina region. Educators may choose to study one species in detail or examine all three for comparative learning:
-
Malleefowl
-
Australasian Bittern
-
Plains-wanderer
Through this program, students learn about the characteristics, habitats, and breeding behaviours of these endangered birds, as well as the vital conservation initiatives working to protect them. The module also incorporates First Nations perspectives on stewardship and the cultural importance of caring for Country.
Additional resources, including printable fact sheets and classroom activities, are available to support ongoing learning. New materials will continue to be developed and added over time.
