2013
Funded by a Community Partnership grant from the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority (now Riverina Local Land Services), through the Australian Government’s Caring for Our Country program.
This project aimed to support Landcare groups and networks across the Murrumbidgee Catchment by better understanding Landcare in our region. Alan Cole, the Project Officer working on the project, undertook a thorough review of past activities and achievements of all Landcare groups in the catchment. This was supported by extensive input from current and past Landcare members, to build a picture of Landcare in the Murrumbidgee, documented in the report “Map of Landcare Groups in the catchment: Past, present and potential”.
The second stage of the project involved an investigation of the current needs and interests of the existing Landcare Networks and Groups in the Murrumbidgee catchment. This was compiled through input from consultation with a broad sample of Landcare representatives across the catchment, from Hay to Michelago, as well as ongoing involvement at Landcare meetings. His findings are summarised in the second project report, “Assessment of Landcare needs and support”.
While completing the project, Alan Cole attended a number of strategic forums on the future of Landcare both in the catchment and across NSW. He was also inspired to play a key role in the formation of his local Bowning and Bookham Districts Landcare Group.
